Bushtarion Manual
IRC Rules
#Bushtarion is the Official channel for the game on the NetGamers IRC network.

Server: irc.netgamers.org
Room: #Bushtarion
Current #Bushtarion Operators (@ by their nick): Asmo, Azzer, Cyrus, DarkAngel, Markb, Martin, MattM, Maxi, Ogluk, Pinpower and Squiffy [a bot].
Current Bushtarion Official Helpers (+ by their nick): Asmo, CFalcon, Cyrus, Elderveld, Inferno, Kuda, Nightmare, No_Dachi, Ogluk, Penguin, Pinpower, Souls and Twigley.

IRC Rules:
Users who break any of these rules may be given a warning by the bot run in the channel or by a member of the Operator staff. Further violation of the rules after this warning can result in a second (kick) warning and a third occurrence can lead to a ban. Users who are found to break the rules on purpose (for fun, or because they think it makes them popular amongst other users etc.) can be manually kicked/banned by a member of channel staff (usually opped) without any warnings given. Likewise more serious offenses by a user can result in a manual kick/ban by a member of channel staff without warning.
Questions about and requesting help for P and the NetGamers Website should be directed to the #Cservice channel.

1. Character Usage

1.1 The use of colour (control) codes in text is not permitted. This includes the use of bold and underline codes.
Channel mode +S will strip such codes from text you put into the channel as these are likely used to draw attention, and if everybody did so the channel would become a mess. Also, some older or web based clients can't interpret such characters correctly and it could obstruct some people from participating in the chat.

2. Language

2.1 Using profanity (swearing), whether directly aimed towards other users or not, is not allowed.
2.2 Speaking any language other than English is not allowed. This is a multi-cultural community, and therefore we use the language the game is written in and that the most users should understand.

3. Client Scripts

3.1 Generally, using public scripts (scripts that send to channels or clients) or bots isn't appreciated in official channels unless authorised by an Operator (in which case the Bot must be removable at any time by any op. within #Bushtarion without consent or warning).
3.2 Using a script with public triggers (like !seen etc.) isn't allowed. Other users can abuse these scripts to have the one running them flood the channel. Repeated attempts to activate any such script is not allowed.
3.3 The person who runs a script is always responsible for its actions. You cannot blame your script, or the person who created the script, for unwanted spam etc. - you alone are solely responsible for your behaviour on IRC.
3.4 Running "on-join" welcome/advertising/recruiting scripts is not allowed and can merit an immediate ban by a member of channel staff.
3.5 Using "war" scripts, or scripts that are designed to damage other users on IRC is against both channel AND network rules, and offenders will be dealt with appropriately. Flooding is likewise against both channel AND network rules and will be dealt with by a member of channel staff and/or IRCop.

4. Other text related stuff

4.1 Repeating text is unnecessary and therefore not allowed.
4.2 /Noticing the channel is not allowed, and will be kicked or banned on immediately.
4.3 Channel modes will stop CTCP's you send to the channel.
4.4 Spamming is not allowed.

5. Game related info

5.1 Pasting ingame information such as ID, player & company names or Alliance HQ Information into the channel is not allowed. If you want someone attacked or defended, then don't try to accomplish that by using the channel as a medium. This includes pasting your own ID.
5.2 Pasting an alliances ID list, offering an alliances ID list out in any form (for example "PM me for the ID list!"), or requesting an alliances ID list is strictly forbidden. Any attempts to do so can result in an instant kick-ban, and depending on the seriousness can even result in a temporary lock on your game account. This includes passing these lists on by proxy (eg if you are found telling somebody else to paste an alliances ID list in the room).
5.3 Using the channel for recruiting by alliances is discouraged.Instead the recruiting forum can be found here.

6. Other rules and notices

6.1 We expect you to act in a civilized and sociable manner. Attempts to insult, hurt or offend other users won’t be tolerated.
6.2 Racist, discriminating (or anything of that kind) jokes, remarks or phrases are prohibited.
6.3 We live in a free society; opinions are therefore free to have. However, if they are insulting or offensive they shouldn't be expressed in the channel. A free society also means other people are free to not be insulted, demeaned, discriminated against, alienated or otherwise.
6.4 Please do not give out ANY personal information (addresses, phone numbers etc.) in the channel - be it yours or another person's. This is very unwise in a public channel such as this, and so is not allowed for the protection of the individuals concerned.
6.5 Advertising game referral links in official channels such as #Bushtarion is not generally a good idea. It is left to op discretion as to whether a link or similar is suitable for the channel. Talking about other games and links is fine, however spamming links is not allowed and you will be dealt with accordingly.
6.6 Inciting others to violate any of the rules is indirectly breaking them yourself. This kind of sneaky behaviour can lead to a kickban without warning.
6.7 Joining and parting the channel very frequently is both unnecessary and annoying. Such "join floods" are not allowed.
6.8 Tricking users into doing things they don't mean to do is a nasty practice and is of no constructive use whatsoever. People who do this sort of thing may be kicked or banned without warning (Think: etc.).
6.9 If you have been banned, you are breaking network and channel rules if you purposefully evade the ban, and may be immediately re-banned with a longer duration than the original ban.
6.10 No passing on/pasting of messages in the room from banned users. (don't give banned users a "voice" in the room).
6.11 Please do not impersonate members of the Bushtarion Team; this includes both their direct nicknames ("Azzer") and close approximations. Impersonating channel staff is similarly not appreciated and will be dealt with accordingly.
6.12 Do not place any channel operators or game admin on your ignore list. There may be important information that needs to be told to you, or the operator/admin in question may have important things they need to discuss with you. If you have a problem with an operator abusing you, you can report them to Azzer, or appropriate NetGamers authorities.
6.13 "Tags" in names should be placed at the end of your nickname, not at the start. This includes your ID at the end of a round (the one time IDs are allowed) - for example "Azzer[1]", alliance tags "Azzer[SA]" (SaveAzzer), and any other forms of tagging (for example seasonal tags "AzzerXMAS"). Failure to place a tag at the end of your nickname when requested can result in you being banned from the room until you remove it. This is to help make the room both easier to manage, and easier for everybody to read.

7. Operator rights
7.1 Channel staff hold the right to kick, ban or warn anyone for reasons they see fit.
7.2 If you disagree with an action performed by op, expressing it in the channel is not the way to go. Normal attempts to converse in private about a manner will be taken seriously. Attempts in public, or with offensive grounds are likely not to be taken into consideration and can get you banned.
7.3 Inciting behaviour or provoking ops can lead to a kick and/or ban.
7.4 Repeated abuse by any individual or group of persons can lead to longer lasting bans (including permanent bans in very extreme situations). This isn't common, but in the operators' rights to do after negotiation with other members of the channel operator staff.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list - you can be kicked/banned for any offence which an op. feels is justified. By using common sense you should be able to stay within #Bushtarion without ever receiving a ban.

Penalties:

Failure to stick to these rules is usually a warning, then kicks, with repeated breaking of rules resulting in a ban. Only the person who banned you can unban you, so pestering other ops. is no good and may result in a kick or ban for yourself. If you disagree with an operator's decision, and are unable to resolve the issue in a polite and calm manner with the operator, then you must take up the issue with Azzer who has the final say on any bans/actions taken within the IRC channel.

Azzer has the right to lock/delete accounts of those players who are continually abusive to ops. and/or other players of the game, those who continually flount IRC rules, those who evade bans placed upon them by ops., or those that break rules to an immense degree.

Netgamers:

As a member of the Bushtarion community, you should also abide by Netgamers rules at all times. Remember that using IRC is a privilege and that we as a community are merely guests on the Netgamers IRC network. Therefore, going into other channels and causing mischief, and falling foul of network rules will result in the same punishment in #Bushtarion that you would receive had the offence taken place in Bushtarion's official channel.

Remember on IRC the main thing, as with all of Bushtarion, is to have fun. IRC is best enjoyed when everyone adheres to the rules and generally we can have a good atmosphere for all players - new and old.
