Help to copy DVDs

Basically, i wanna copy my DVDs to my laptop. I have a new 500GB internal, and a 1.5TB external and have plenty of room.

You see, i live in Sydney 5 days of the week, and all my DVDs are back at home, so i cant watch anything whenever i want.
So what i need is some FREE software that allows me to copy my DVDs onto my HDD.
Ive tried looking, but i dont seem to be very good at it because all i seem to find are trials, etc.

Any help will be much appreciated

yeah, my grandparents still live in the stone age xD
but i decided to try download it while working on a lab report, and it just finished! It took about 3 hours, and it didnt drop out although, it doesnt really drop out often anymore, probably because im the only one using it

Unfortunately, like most things, its not actually free. You have to pay if you don't want a blaring watermark in the middle of the video file.

However, it turns out you have to download a decoder anyway for you to be able to copy copyrighted material . Which led me to DVD43.

It is 0.5MB, runs in the background decrypting the DVD, and allowed me to copy the files directly from the DVD. Ofc, that means 1:1 quality as well as 1:1 size, so it would take up more space...but meh, ive got about 1.5 TB of space now

So yeah, better to skip the 52 MB video converter, which you eventually have to pay for, and download the 0.5 MB decrypter. And im sure there is some free video file converters if i decide i need to reduce the size..

Hmm, sorry about that - I havent actually used the software for some time - It used to be fantastic though, a straightforward copy to the HD then burn the result to a DVD using pretty much any data burning software.

Ah well.

Actually, you are right. DVD Shrink is a free to use, 1.5MB program. However, that link you gave leads to some page with the DVD Shrink logo and underneath a big download button for AVS4YOU. Which unfortunately is a much larger, more diverse program which you would have to pay for.

I couldnt find the actual DVD Shrink program from that link. However, searching a torrent site yields much better results. So i was able to download the program DVD Shrink.

The only reason i worked this out was cause my friend helped me
