Does the hack report number of troops from players that send units to defend or just that player's units?

Bah: found answer...ignore

hacks show only the total amount of troops a player has. How much he sent in attack in attack or defence you have to work out/guess from his spy report. Reading spy reports is one of the most useful skills a player can have in this game, so if you are new I would suggest you to hack and spy a lot, not only your targets but everyone. Especally the top guys or those tribes which are in war as you can learn a lof of useful tricks this way.

[edit] Forgot to mention that stealth troops are not shown in hack reports, so you have to work them out from spy reports as well.

System hack on xxx of xxx [xxx] successful:
Staff
Gardener [8,103,274] Harvester [1,000,105]
Hippy [73,124] Yob [778,154]
Private [22,609] Officer [166,019]
Shock Trooper [375,405] Wheelbarrower [647]
Geo-Phys Thief [15,764]

This guy has snipers, but since they are stealth, they are not shown.
The hack, as f0xx said, does not say anything about where the troops are (home, out defending, out attacking). What you do know after hacking, is that he has at least these troops at his disposal.

Furthermore, the reason why I make this additional post to f0xxes, is to say that it also doesn't show any injured troops that don't return for the next 5 ticks. But that's more of a detail and maybe a bit too complicated for now.
