Anyone getting Age of Conan? It's a new MMO. Me and some friends got the preorder so I'm playing 3 days before release. I tried the open beta a bit and it seemed neat.
Apparently the PVP is supposed to be awesome, there are siege matches and stuff.

Yup I'll be joining headstart today too. 6 day headstart for us Euros since our headstart is the same time but the official release isn't until the 23rd here.
Playing on an EU PVP server, "Wildsoul".
I played the open beta at the end (final day) when it was made in to free for all pvp (which is what the PVP servers will be), and it was great, brought back some of that old school Ultima Online feeling, where anyone anywhere can kill you/you can kill them. No factions. No races that can't attack eachother. No safe zones to quietly quest in. It's a dangerous brutal world out there, and you have to watch your back. PVE is for carebears ;)

Been playing this a fair bit, and I have to say I think this game is a WoW beater.
Everything about it is great - from the classes, the spells/feats, the visuals, graphics & sound, quests, the PVP side of things, guild-cities (build structures including walls & keeps) and then sieges on other guilds' cities, it's all yummy. Then there's the fact it's got beheadings, impalings, men running around screaming on fire, and other fun fatalities and bloodsplats. I'm loving it.
I've been waiting for a good MMORPG to get in to for a long time now (years), and I've tried a lot over the years... this is the one for me.
The official EU retail release is this Friday - so if you have some time & cash to spare, and are in to your MMO's, get it :)

I think even you will love it Angela! ;) It's a darker/more mature "atmosphere" than WoW (WoW has that vague "cartooney/blocky" feel to it - which some people prefer), but all the gameplay elements of WoW are there, just in modern format.
Also the "FFA PVP" server (which I play on) is different to WoW's PVP - it's literally free for all - no factions/races that can't attack eachother. You can attack anyone, anytime, anywhere (with the exception of the "capital cities" and parts of the newbie zone). There's a "PVE" server which is more like WoW's PVP - PVP is limited to minigames, the guild sieges, and a couple of special PVP "border zones".
Anyone that played & enjoyed Ultima Online back in the day with it's free for all PVP, guards in towns that come to assist you if someone attacks you in the smaller towns/villages, and the ability to hunt down anyone you don't like (while risking the same being done to yourself) will love the PVP servers! :D
Few Qs then Azzer,
What are we looking at for PC Power? I can run WoW at full rate (havent tried some large boss fights with adds) on full graphics with a good few mods, but have a small CPU (GPU and Ram is ace)?

I play it on max settings, at 1920*1200 screenmode, and get an average of 40-60 FPS, dropping to 20 when there's tonnes happening on screen and up to about 75 if I'm close to walls/not got much view-distance etc and it looks fantastic... but then I have a beast of a machine ;) I think you can run it on a fairly "budget" PC on lower settings, and on low settings it still looks pretty "alright" - and compared to WOW's huge objects (low polygon counts, low texture resolutions), it's a major difference.
Any computer that struggles with WOW's graphics at around medium settings is going to struggle with AOC at it's lowest settings... any computer built or bought in the last 4 years or so shouldn't have any problems with it though, and any new (last year) PC should play fine at medium to high settings. Any decent gaming PC will play at full settings of course ;)
You'll have to compare your specs to the minimum/recommended specs given by the game (don't have them myself to hand) for a more "accurate" idea though :P

Unbalances between classes fixed?
Bugs fixed?
PvP at graveyard port camping fixed?
necromancer pet fixed?
If not then i wouldnt buy it (at least not yet) cause in the end its WoW with better graphics and possibility to have half naked female characters... boring.

^^ No, of course not, but then even 4 years on WoW still patches balances and bug fixes, I think that's an evolution of MMO's. WoW's pretty good now, 4 years on. AoC is just launching. Give it a chance if you want to be realistic :)
PvP at graveyard port camping fixed
^^ Yes, you now get a temporary immunity spell - can't take damage until client is loaded plus a little time to hide/run/heal/buff/whatever. It's only a short immunity, but long enough (tested, am happy with it now, I hated the res ganking). If you are still worried about PVP, of course, then you have the option to play on a PVE server. Also you get this immunity upon zone-loading, so no zone-ganking either.
* Bugs fixed?
^^ Plenty of bugs, and we'll see plenty of patches and new bugs over the years. Not many MMOs go without patches. What version is WoW on now?

I'm on PVP server Tyranny. (World PVP is every man for himself with blood money, so it's not for the weak of heart.)
It's a beast in terms of video card load. You don't need more than 1GB RAM (I'd recommend 2GB though, or a big page file.) And, CPU doesn't take a whole lot (like 3 GHz should be more than enough).
But, you'll want a solid graphics card. I had a 7900 GS, and I'm upgrading because it only got 20 FPS on Low settings, and would often drop to 7 FPS in combat and look choppy. My new card is an 8800 GT, it comes in the mail tomorrow. $140 on Newegg, grab one if you are upgrading it's the way to go :D
That said, the game seems great, and looks to have the best PVP I've seen. That's why I'm deactivating WoW, along with about 10 friends.
Siege battles for PVP forts FTW!

In terms of what you'll need for a video card, AOC on Low makes WoW on High (completely maxed) look like solitaire. Lots of water effects, fog effects, very high polygon counts. A lot of people are buying new video cards for the game.
You are comparing bleeding edge modern graphics to stuff that looked nice 4 years ago.
That said, other than the video card, if you can run WoW you can run AoC.

Azzer what i mean with bugs wasnt stuff like few freezes and some choppy graphics etc...
I mean really gib bugs like that necromancer one. Really big unbalances like rangers being only PvP class that could be played etc.

Ranger bow damage was nerfed down, they were balanced halfway through the PVP weekend.
Tempest used to be OP at level 20, from what I have seen they are now balanced.
Of course classes won't be perfectly balanced at first, they will keep balancing certain things I am sure.
From what I hear Necro pets AI is a bit annoying in certain situations, and is more limited than in WoW, but it works fine.cause in the end its WoW with better graphics and possibility to have half naked female characters... boring. If by that you mean it is an MMO, as is WoW, and has better graphics, then you are correct.
Other than that, no, it is not WoW, not WoW at all.

Well they're definitely fixed - no crashes, choppyness here, and I can PVP kill most (not all..) other classes as my demonologist. If anything the "Tempest of Set" class is a bit unbalanced atm but I'm sure balances will be fixed over time! No idea about a necromancer bug? The pets work for a necromancer... they aren't meant to be tanks like other games, you have to think of it as a new concept... and at later levels you can have up to 20 pets running around as a little army.

I've been convinced to get this, so will start playing some time this week. Coincidentally, Azzer plays on the same server as my WoW guild is starting up in. I think I might keep my name secret.

What's your WoW guild called in Conan? I've seen a lot of guilds around, so just wondering who your guys are. I'm in an "anti-gank" guild so have to behave, don't worry :P

hmmmm, im tempted to get this game. how much do you have to pay monthly? and for someone who is fairly short of cash would you say it is worth it? i have played a few MMORPG's, mainly guild wars, never played WoW.
also what kind of specs does it realisticly need?
i have 1gb of ram, and well not a lot else tbh. and would it work on my laptop? only 512mb ram?

OK I went and bought the game. It's pretty cool so far! :) Just need some friends to play with. I'm on Bloodspire server right now.
Also am not sure if these are Euro servers or US. Maybe its mixed? Though I am willing to change servers to go where all you nice bushtarion players are!
Anyways, let me know where everyone is at :D
Also tomtree, I would say 2GB Minimum. It runs on my Laptop Vista 32 bit, Geforce 8600m, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 GHz. I get around 20 FPS? So its playable, would help if I had a better proc and videocard for sure.
Ordered it today so I'll get it once I go home next week. What server does everyone play on? I need to find some people to play with. :P

Due to much lack of communication, foot stomping and many cries of "but I've been here longer than you!!", it seems that my guild is now on Soulstorm.
If there's a common server for most Bush players who start in it, that's probably where I'll be. Should get the game tomorrow! If only I'd have realsied Play wouldn't dispatch on Bank Holidays.

I think the nicest thing I can say about AoC is that it's the worst game I've ever spent money on, that's one hell of a marketting department they've got.
The graphics are better than WoW, and that's about it.
Better combat? Well, not that I can say, it's basically just bashing button, same as WoW, but you can pick direction, left right or centre, not much of a worry if you'd rather pyroblast though, tbh.
More mature content? Well, after about 30 minutes, I could either call an NPC a "sonf of a whore" or tell him I'd kick his ass, and there's like, blood and stuff. Yup, maturity is there. As with all "mature" content, it draws a mature crowd. I don't think I've seen anything in the chat so far except for talking about how **** WoW is...try to use reason, and you're a "queer who sucks his granddads cock and works for Blizz". I don't think I'll renew...
Graphics are nice and shiny though.

To be honest it's still too early to tell how the game will pan out. So many things are broken/imbalanced/doing the opposite of what they should be that you can't really judge it currently.
I'm having to take a break until I get a new computer, my current machine just can't handle the graphics (even at lowest settings. And I mean lowest!) - I'm getting an average of 5fps, with about 50% of my gametime normally spent at around 5spf. No, that's not a typo. Just makes the game unplayable in it's current state >.<
Been having great fun when I can play though. We spent a number of hours last night just raping people in Tortage. I think Azzer's still there now actually, sniping away... :-P

To anyone asking about servers... US & EU servers are sadly seperated, so those that buy a US copy can only play on the US servers. If you buy an EU copy (or get an EU friend to buy one and email you the key), then you can play on the EU servers (but not the US servers).
Myself, Weeble and a couple of others Bushtarion players are playing on the "Wildsoul" PVP server.
If you can't hack the fact people may attack you anytime anywhere (and there's plenty of "police-men" types that attack the attackers randomly too), then go to a PVE server (which has designated PVP zones and PVP minigames). But the PVP server definitely makes the game a lot more fun (treat it like an FPS like Battlefield, where you shoot anyone anytime anywhere ;) )
Started playing this yesterday. It's awesome so far. :D I'm playing on Wildsoul with Azzer. We need more people to join us! :P

Been playing this myself and tbh, it is extremely obvious this is a first hash of a game. The graphics are good but I'm afraid that for someone who is used to playing a game that has been perfected over the years, such as WoW, AoC is just 1 big frustration. Maps are near impossible to navigate, most of the time spent online is spent running from one area to the next (most quests don't even tell you where to find the person to hand the quest back to, you're supposed to remember every NPC's name)! The professions/trades are an afterthought, and even then the weaving prequest is bugged.
As for the players, all I read in general chat are conversations about breasts and whale sperm... omg I killz u mf pwned etc. etc.
In short... I'll look back at AoC in a couple of years. Playing one week of AoC has made me love WoW all over again!

As Angela said... I'm on WoW 4 nights a week for raiding and now levelling a paladin so messing about on WoW when not raiding. Also as I said in my previous post, AoC just isn't worth my time nor money as it is currently so I'll stick with WoW for a while longer :)
Anyway Twigs, what's your character name? I can mainly be found on Myrine during raid evenings (Mon, Tue, Thur and Sun), or on Supremazia or Venere the other times.
