What is it?
 you don't know??!??!
Black Isle Productions made two of my favorite computer games of all time (Fallout 1 and 2). The games came out in the late 90's but are still some of the best open ended pc games out there. Black Isle went out of business though
BUT...Bethesda (people who made Elder Scrolls and Oblivion) bought the rights to the game in 2004 and have been developing fallout 3 for over 4 years. It is my most anticipated game this year (starcraft 2 is a close second).

You can place an order for something that hasn't been released yet, therefore the term 'pre-order' is redundant.

I wasn't a big fan of Fallout 2, but i'm intrigued to see if the new one is any good.

And your problem is?
I have not seen single FPS that has worked as role playing game. For ages people have tried such and yet never it has worked. Im free to say exactly that. I loved fall out 1&2. I have played multiple other RPGs on comps and still i prefer from outside view to everything.
Im afraid fallout will turn out to be just normal FPS crap with high graphics and no depth. Its exact opposite of what fallout is about.
If you dont like people to talk and to give opinions then dont read.

yeah, i have to agree with BW here. Fallout was always the best game of its type when it was just an RPG. Even the fallout 3 demo made by Black Isle before it went belly up was RPG based (yes i had a copy of their effort before closure) and it was great.

I know there arn't a whole lot of Oblivion fans in here, but i loved the game. Blackwolf, Oblivion made the perfect FPS roleplaying game because they tried something new. It had some flaws, yes, but thats because it was ahead of its time. Bethesda will iron out the bugs and improve on their awesome style. I think its hard to be critical on a game that pushes the current envelope of development. Fallout 3 can only be an improvement to the FPS style. And if you don't like FPS then they have the 3rd person view as well
BTW: please don't smeg up my thread with bashes against oblivioin. thx

I cant bash it cause i have not played it.
Would like to know how they did all developments in it? Same normal stuff like you get bit more health new skills etc? I wonder how they plan to do stuff like aiming etc in FPS mode... never worked in any game i have played. But had huge impact in previous fallouts. Same way stuff like finding, talking etc. I dont think it will be the same in FPS. Its so easy to ruin FPS, or turn it to some tech demo like crysis. I never cared about graphics of fallout. It was the depth of it.
And im not bashing fallout, im just afraid of what it will be.

Oblivion and Mass Effect both employed FPS excellently in to the role play genre, and I've played a number of "lesser" RPG/RPG-esque games that also employed FPS to some extent or another successfully. I've also played FPS games with elements of roleplay and questing (eg S.T.A.L.K.E.R). With the right implementaion, it completely can work, and I'm really looking forward to Fallout 3. I'll place my order for it the moment it appears on Play.com ;)

WOOHOO!
I've been looking forward to Fallout 3 for a while too. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two, and I hope the subtle hints of humour and extremely random dialogue are retained. It's a shame you can't become a childkiller in this one.
Deus Ex was an excellent FPS with RPG elements. I also loved Oblivion and Mass Effect.
Fable 2 is another RPG I'm highly anticipating, although the hype surrounding the first one resulted in me wanting to headbutt Peter Molyneux in the nuts when I found out it wasn't very good.

Im playing Mass Effect atm. and i dont really think its that cool.
What i have seen and heard of Fallout 3 is still not making me to cheer that much....
If it would be named like Fallout: Advanced or something instead of Fallout 3 i might take it. Unfortunately all iv heard so far is praicing about how cool it looks and how cool all battles are...
Hell you could finish fallout 2 without firing a shot... that was something. That was real RPG... Yes im waiting for it and yes i want to play it, it just doesnt mean im all for all these so called RPGs where all it is is just some basic FPS and then on top of it are added some lousy points system.
In Mass Effect you can clearly see how their "must be fights" has turned rather nice game to hollow "kill em all for XP" fighting and all side missions are from same mold and after 3 you have seen them all...

Would ahrdly call Oblivion FPS (first person shooter) unless you class magic as guns. and in mass effect the shooting didnt really work for it at all.
On a side note balls to fallout 3 get fable 2 :P
