Loving the look of this, looks like we're going back to the good old days of BF2.
Graphics look immense.

lol, that trailer was so short of gameplay yet somehow awesome
Now, if only i can get over my MW2 addiction...
However DA, dont get excited about soo many players:
"We play tested with 128. You***8217;ve got to make a game that***8217;s fun to play. And, arguably, we think that the most fun you can have is when it***8217;s between 32 and 40 players. And we***8217;ve done substantial research into this and tested 128 and that it***8217;s not fun. Maybe we haven't done our design work good enough, but we just feel like there's no point in going higher than 64."
Oh, and they expect it out end of 2011. ****n sweet. The hardest part of my degree will be over, then i can enjoy that ****

I've heard that 256 is only for PC. Consoles will be considerably less apparently.

i doubt that a lot
Don't be a spanner - How do you expect 32-Bit O/S based games consoles to re-produce a quality game to 128 players? It won't. Thus it will be top-spec high-RAM 64-Bit PC's only. Elitist gaming for the win.

Clarification (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/292614/news/battlefield-3-multiplayer-can-handle-up-to-256-players/).
It's been established that Battlefield 3's multiplayer will allow for 64 players on PC and 24 players on console, but it's technically capable of up to 256 players.
I still think there should be 3/4 dedicated servers for 128 players. Imagine the D-Day recreation there. Awesome fun, and epic lulz would be had.

Just refer to my first post where i included a quote. They arent likely to do it for over 64 players, let alone the 256 Marvin mentioned

So who's been giving this a try?
I can't get on multiplayer yet, but from what I've been trying of the campaign; mixed reactions.
The graphics and sounds are stunning, as we knew they would be, and some of the weapons/vehicles/features are pretty damn cool too.
But the whole thing just feels kinda un-finished and rushed. It just doesn't "flow" right. The menu's are awkward, on PC you have to launch the game from an html page in your web browser which just screams last-minute-job, and the levels don't merge quite as seamlessly as they might. Also, coming from playing MW1/2 alot, the movement and aiming doesn't seem very smooth either, but maybe I just need to get used to that. On MW2 I can instantly line up sights on a target, on BF3 I'm having to spend a second or two correcting aim before each shot. But as I say, that's probably just me needing to get used to it.
Also, I had to manually update the registry to get it to launch, and judging by the forums I trawled around the internet to find the solution, I'm not the only person to have had this problem. Another indicator that it was just rushed out for release before MW3, whether it was ready or not, instead of taking another 6 months to make it perfect. And it could be perfect if polished properly. But unless they actually do do some polishing, I don't think it's gonna top MW3.
Be interested to hear from anyone who's been giving multiplayer a go.

i checked out some reviews. but i get the impression that the reviewer is either a subjective cod or bf3 fan. one review was all like, it has these bugs. BUT we're still gonna give it 9.5/10 because these bugs arent too much of a problem. and they all seem to agree campaign is not great, but then say it doesnt matter because the game is all about the muliplayer.
[edit]here is a review from a BF2 fan, ripping the sh1t outta BF3 lol

this game is incredible, the story mode is so much better than the bad company 2 story which was really cheesy.. and multiplayer is just immense, the best firefights i have ever experienced in a game and great fun with friends or on your own. The graphics rock, the vehicles are awesome.. BEST GAME IVE EVER PLAYED... im getting MW3 when it comes out so will be interesting to see if Infinity Ward have recovered COD from the shambolic excuse of a game Black Ops... even though half of Infinity Ward left and are making a game that should be out sometime next year..

cracked into the campaign today. not too bad so far, not too overwhelmingly awesome either though. Not what i expected as a result of the hype. Controls seem clunky in comparison to COD. Graphics are outstanding however, as one expected but graphics alone do not make an amazing game. hopefully the singleplayer gets better, and the multiplayer blows my mind. Here's hoping!!!

Personally I think the single player is better than COD. The multiplayer is awesome but I haven't played enough to say I prefer it to COD yet tbh. I think it's definitely worth a buy though!

i think i will wait. Hopefully some updates may come out. normally a rushed out game will get a few updates to finish it off. I think its probably going to be sweet, but im worried it may have lost something. I dont only want nice visuals, though it helps, I want nice gameplay. BF BC2 was great fun, but I dont want to be given a game that looks better but plays worse, thats my biggest fear. But every friend that bought it has said its awsome, and I have to get it. So i will eventually maybe after christmas. in the sales

The size of the maps is so awesome. Sniping across huge distances is just a really awesome time. I think my current headshot record is 146m. HOW COOL IS THAT? Anyways, the vehicles are awesome. I'm kind of useless with them but it's really sweet so far.
The variety of options in multiplayer is really awesome, blowing up walls and such is just great fun. i can't emphasize how great this game really is in multiplayer. So far I'm really enjoying the "Rush" matches; I'm pretty useless to my team but it's great to be defending and sitting back 400 metres away sniping. It's equally well adapted to shattering and dangerous close quarters combat. The squad reinforcement option to respawn with your teammates (whether new or not i don't know) is really great on some of the bigger maps and provides "instantaneous" backup in dire situations which is totally sweet.
The weapons are really fun, and quite easy to handle. The clunkiness I felt from the singleplayer is completely gone and everything is really quite lovely. This game rocks.

My sisters boyfriend brought his copy round for me to give a bash whilst I'm waiting for tomorrow. So yeah i load it up download that patch and then I'm told I have to pay 800 MSP to play.
Seriously? EA can go **** themselves. So now you have to pay to play for a server that will be dropped before all the other microsoft run servers anyway. EA servers are inferior anyway.
I will never buy another EA game in my life.

To be fair I do think it's mental that you only get to use the games online features once (or on one xbox I should say)... If you buy a game you should get all features of it, but it's something that is happening more and more now so I guess we're all gonna have to get used to it.
In other news I've finished the single player campaign (which was awesome btw) so I have started playing multiplayer properly and it's *****ing!!! Every game feels so epic, moving through maps strategically with different ways of tackling an objective is awesome fun. Got the night off work today so gonna try and play a few more games and really get into it!!!

No, basically when you buy the game from new it comes with an online access code which can only be redeemed once (onto one Xbox/gamer tag) this is a tiny download which allows you to play online. So if you buy the game second hand or borrow it off a mate or whatever you can't play online unless you purchase an online code for 800 Microsoft points.
Is bs tbh, if we are paying £40-50 on a game you should be able to lend it out or sell it second hand or whatever you want...I know EA does this with basically all of their games now but I'm sure other publishers are/will as well.
However, while this is annoying as hell, saying "I'll never buy another ea game" is silly as your only gonna be hurting yourself when you can't pay some awesome battlefield 3 games!!!!!! ;)

I know its good, but the reason i love COD is because its so fast paced, while this is not so fast paced.

I know its good, but the reason i love COD is because its so fast paced, while this is not so fast paced.
BF3 has slower pace moments, but it has some very hectic, fast paced maps and portions of maps as well. RUSH games are a great example as they usually start out rather long range and are a bonus for snipers and those who like playing cat and mouse with their targets. As the objectives are destroyed you usually get more into the downtown core of a map and end up in close quarters combat.
So far i've never had a game of BF3 where there wasn't all sorts of different combat, lots of different areas to be in and definitely a huge variation of gameplay styles.
My experience with COD is the complete opposite. Close, claustrophobic maps which do not reward anything other than the fastest trigger finger. BF3 is a little more methodical and a lot more rewarding for differing playstyles. Hopefully MW3 will address some of these problems.
As for the online thing, I think EA has a right to do whatever they want with the game. They are trying to protect their product from being misused. I would rate that as a minor nuisance (how often do you really lend out your games to your mates, or play on another xbox?) If your friend wants to play the game, they should either buy it at full price, or pay a small price to be allowed to use the same copy multiple times. I honestly have no problem with their system here. I think it's a fine balance between product protection and usability. I guess i'm in the minority however.
Battlefield 3 is a fine game, well polished, well balanced, very well executed and a great shooter for those who are not huge fans of the "run and gun" method of playing FPS games. I honestly can't commend the game enough.

How long does it take to get into fast paced gameplay? Because i am majorly impatient. If i spawn at other side of the map and it takes 30s to get to the action, annoyed

I hope they dont lol. Thats my style, reflexes. Its most awesome when youre running, someone starts shooting you in the back close range, and then do a super-fast 180 quickscope kill, blood all over your screen (rarely been fast/well timed enough to get it though :P)

The problem is with second hand games. Believe it or not they do exist for BF3. But yes I agree, they can do whatever the heck they want. But some people might not be too please about it (obviously)

It really does sound like a good and immersive game, while i think COD would suit my play style better, i probably will end up buying this (later when price drops)

It hasn't taken me anywhere near 30 seconds to get into fast paced gameplay. You can spawn on your "live" players; so as long as someone is near the action you're back in the game in about 4 seconds. Or you can grab a vehicle at the standard spawnpoint and be in the action in like 8 seconds :P It's pretty much up to you.
I am getting COD tomorrow lol, and will most assuredly be playing it online and hope they at least balance the maps somewhat. I just find it boring to run around small maps and play the "reflexes" game; since most everyone is better than me :( But that being said, I'm sure MW3 will be excellent fun regardless of what they do.
Battlefield 3 is much more team oriented, a lot more rewarding when it comes to actually pulling off tactics and just annihilating another team. While you'd have to adjust your playstyle a little bit, it's not altogether necessary and you'd still have a great time. I will be playing BF3 for a long, long, long time to come.
As for the secondhand game option, that does seem a little tricky :( Perhaps they'll come up with a way to make it happen. Presumably if you buy a second hand game from a store it'll have a fresh code in it? (i dunno if anyone has tried) but if you're just buying it, or taking it from a friend, well, isn't 10 bucks better than 70? I really don't see the huge fuss and bother but meh. To each their own!
BF3 requires more thinking (if you want to) or provides straight run'n'gun action if you want it. It's more varied than any COD game so far, if that helps describe it ;)

Nope. The whole point of the redeemable codes is so only one person can play online per copy. It would be pointless giving a code for new copies if they were going to give them out with pre-owned ones as well.

I've gotten lag a couple times, but only for like a split second. I have had no problems whatsoever with online play.
I also bought the game about a week after it was released, apparently it was laggy and shitty as hell when it started but that had more to do with EA servers rather than xbox live. I've had no issues joining games, never been dropped yet, and only the lag a couple times as i said. ;)
Great stuff. Bought MW3 today though so might be MIA on BF3 for a bit.
