Help Please

Im trying to install XP on a laptop (Toshiba Satellite M200) that originally had Vista. Im using my XP recovery disc for my Toshiba Satellite M70.

However, when i try to boot from the DVD i get an error message that looks something like this:

TOSHIBA____________Recover CD/DVD-ROM
____Wrong Machine!
____This software is designed for
____TOSHIBA Personal Computers

And then i think there is nothing i can do but restart. I press a key and it restarts...

Otherwise i have installed XP SP2. Yet it has no drivers, no Ethernet, no Wireless adapter, not even USB!

So i need to make my DVD work, otherwise, how can i get network/USB drivers? Ive tried downloading drivers from the Toshiba site, yet i still nothing seems to happen when i install them. There are no LAN/Wireless icons in the network connections window.

And trust me, i have Googled, i always do. There was a good solution for the Wrong machine error, but it seems that is for a slightly different instance, since no DOS prompt comes up for me :(

Cheers
Tim

How did you get the drivers from the Toshiba website onto the laptop if you have no usb/DVD/Ethernet connectivity?

You should at least have generic usb drivers with XP, afaik.

Nope, USB did not work at all
Ive been using CD-RW to put software on it. The DVD drive is the only thing that works. But i know this is because Windows comes with CD/DVD drivers which work fine

I used my laptop to access net.

Been trying to get XP to work on other laptop. I dont want to have to go beack to Vista, because its soooo horribly slow. Even when freshly installed. XP is like 10x faster on this laptop (im dead serious).

btw, i found a program called DriverMax
I backed up all my drivers on my computer and restored them onto the other laptop. And now USB works! But thats it :(

Even though i installed Wireless and Ethernet drivers, nothing appears in Network Connections, except for the 1394 Connection. Do you know how i can get this to work?

Anyway i have one more trick up my sleeve id like to try, so we will see how that goes.

[edit]
trick did not work.

Tried fiddling with the BIOS? Seem to remember Toshiba's have a few random OS specific options...so might be worth checking that out. Failing that, grab a copy of Everest and note down *exactly* what hardware you have then go hunting for those specific drives. Or, post a list of the exact hardware you have along with the drivers you're attempting to install so we can check compatibility.
