So in my country people commonly say that the 8th of March is "woman's day". I see that a lot of people here call it "Mother's day". Which one is the right one??

In Australia it's Mother's day so if your a female and you have made babies then you get a present lol. A sign of appreciation. But ours is in May iirc.

In America, it Mother's Day as well. From a mother's point of view, its another day where you reflect in a state of awe at how someone so perfect is a product of you!

from what i know the 8th of march is an international day for women (which is sanctioned by the UN as well) in general, not just mothers, to celebrate the achievements (political, social, etc) of women.

Mother's day, at least here in the US isn't until may, i believe. i think it's different in other countries, so some might have made it on the same day as international day for women in order to combine two holidays:p

Edit: looking it up, i found that the following countries celebrate both mother's day and international day for women on the same day:

March 8 Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Laos, Macedonia*, Mongolia*, Montenegro, Russia*, Serbia, Ukraine. *In Belarus, Bulgaria, Guyana, Macedonia, Mongolia, and Russia it is observed as International Women's Day, not specifically Mothers' day.

Not sure what other's might *shrugs*

My Mum would be unhappy if we did do something, it's her that encouraged as since kids to ignore it as a "pointless excuse for commercialism, we already have Christmas". *loves his Mummy*
