./begin north/south debate
:P
Basically the first thing you want to do is work out if you want to live in the north or south of england. Given you seem to be up for a party I'd strongly advise the north/midlands.
By midlands/north I'm saying cities like Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, at a stretch Birmingham, Newcastle. You're guaranteed a warm welcome in any of these places, whereas (and here's where things get argumentative) down south you're probs just gunna get stabbed. (OoOOoOoO can I say that? Sure I can :D)
Ignore people who recommend London, the only thing it's good for is shopping and sightseeing if you haven't been before. Otherwise you're just gunna get raped for housing costs.

Great advice BlackWolf just because you are jealous because you live in crapland :P
I'd personally recommend Leeds/Manchester both lots of nightclubs good night scene and no hefty costs for houses.

i recommend eastbourne! it is called the sunshine coast for a reason, that reason being it is always rainy and gloomy here.
its pretty good for young partiers like you, it's full of old people sitting on the beachs..
you won't get stabbed down here! no really you won't.
If you're gay, Brighton. If you're gangsta, London. If you're retired, Eastbourne ;) If you're a cheapskate surfer, Cornwall. The Hiking type, Dartmoor/Breacons. One for a night out, pretty much all the Northern cities from what I've heard.
Think that's just about covered it

:P you guys rock.....
atm Leeds and manchester have out voted most other places but only slightly :P
we also need a place that will be fairly easy to pick up a job at, but from what ive heard aussies never really have to much trouble picking up jobs....
we will probs start with a pub job but we both wanna sorta just move more towards say like a supermarket or something more retaily, just simply because thats what we have experience in.
public transport also needs to be decent in the area:P
couple of things on the to do list....
1) watch a premier league match (any1 know the cost of this)
2) BUSH MEET lol

Don't go to the north, You're guaranteed to get shot. Daily.
If it's above the M25.. you don't want to live there.
Try the green belt around london, or any of the home counties such as Berkshire, Buckinghamshire etc etc..
All very nice places to live. Yes, it costs more to live here... but you get what you pay for.

Depends who you want to see, you're looking at anywhere from £15 to about £70. Depeds which teams you're watching (teams tend to have "categories" a - c, with A being the big gameslike Man Utd, or local derbies, C being the likes of Derby and Fulham, which is obviously a lot cheaper), it also depends where in the ground you sit.
Aston Villa have some of the cheapest tickets in the league, by the way, stay in Birmingham. :D

Sheffield! Birthplace of football. Where I live. What could be better? Safest city in England, so you wont get shot or stabbed :D 20 miles away from Manchester and Leeds. Cheapest rent in England too according to the Uni website (presumably due to a hell of a lot of new housing being built recently). Shouldn't be any problem getting a job (but that applies anywhere really). Some awesome pubs. Arguably the best emerging music scene in the country. It's even got a tram.
Sheffield probably lags behind Leeds and Manchester in terms of nightlife, slightly. Best nightlife in the country is reputedly Newcastle.
London is insanely expensive and not English at all. It's a tourist zone, that's all.
Anything in the south is still far too expensive. Regardless of what Bobbin says it's not a better place to live :P
Really, you're best to just check out everywhere and decide what you like.
Prem league matches depend on the team and whether there are any offers on. For example, it's a struggle to get tickets for Man U at home but Bolton can't sell half their seats. As a rule you're looking at 20 to 30 quid altho If you're not picky you can probably pick up a 10 quid ticket whenever someone does an offer.

well sorry bobbin but reality is we cant really afford it :S its bad enough enduring the exchange rate of 2.5:1 (thats nasty)
atm our options are at
Leeds
Manchester
Liverpool
Birmingham
i guess its up to me and TTK to work out which one we want.... this will most likely be decided by pulling a name out of a hat ;)

I didnt say that Finland would be any better than England did i?
Noooo...
Actually if you want to move to hell hole of world move to Finland... If you want to get out of there you could try England... it would be improvement... From hell to pit hole... its improvement... just not that great one.
If you live anywhere else moving to England is insanity. Im sure some doctor can give you som medical assistance to get rid of this temporarily mental disorder.
If for some reason you want to move to Finland we have nice soft room without corners ready for you.

My vouch does for Manchester because if you are going to see a premier league game; you want to go Manchester to see Manchester United. There are some nice hotels around that area as well. Plenty of shopping centers as well. :D
Liverpool don't particularly like - quite a dirty place; and not as many shopping centers. Plenty of illegal dogs around as well (Pitbulls) - had to add this in because I watched some 'Panarama' program on it :D. However for the football side of things, Liverpool has the best stadium for atmosphere - you might want to try get tickets to see them vs Arsenal/Man U/Chelsea/Or Champions League games. Also they are a good team.

Thats not very nice :( :P
But I went to Liverpool, about a year ago, although it was the outskirts of Liverpool (cant remember the name of the place) it was so dirty. I remember distinctly, I drove past a road with about 100 CDs and CD cases lieing on the middle of the road. There was a TV Stand with TV screen smashed in there.
Now it may only be that particular road. But it was appalling.

Lol they'd be bloody lucky to get tickets for those games :P Any games involving the big 4 at all usually sell out fairly quickly, especially champions league games. Anfield would be a great place to see a champions league game tho, even if their You'll Never Walk Alone gets dominated by Celtic's :P
Back on topic tho, I'd vote manchester but any of the cities in the north would be good places (leeds, sheffield etc), they've all got vibrant nightlife with plenty of bars and such and im sure these days most places are welcoming to foreigners

Don't go up North! Far from the perils of being shot like in London, your more likely to get bottled or get stabbed up the arse. Leading to a painfully slow death where you quietly bleed to death in the gutter somewhere, enduring ASBO's urinating all over you and Ladettes vomiting on your shoes. Far better to go to London, which has been recolanised by Australians anyway (would be a home from home for ya!). Drinks are heavily priced, which has led to the women developing the strategy of spreading their legs way before you have to ply them with alcohol. All the slightly interesting parts of the U.K are in London anyway so save yourself some bother and just go there (at least when you go home people will know where you have been, rather than globally obscure places like Leeds and Brimingham). Or for a bit of diversity you could come to Bristol, where all of the above is possible. It's a Sess Pit, but so is the rest of England :)

Come to Bristol lol, Its cheap, tends to vary between nice (Clifton) and drug-infested (Easton and St Pauls), and so caters for all tastes :D The cider is awesome (so much better than beer), cheap as fark, and we've got 3 unis nearby, so loads of nightlife :D..... :P

bournemouth/dorset/ my local area. Has good nightlife and beaches, and alot of hot girls. ive lived there most of my life so take alot of it for granted. but beach barbeques. rural pubs with gastro food and beer gardens near where i live and all around. going down a river in a rubber dingy with your mates getting drunk and enjoying life. fantastic times to be had. and local brewery ringwood, has some of THE BEST bitters ive ever tried. 49er, boondogle. keep an eye out if you like ales. (and you can beat a boondogle top in the beer garden of my local with sun beaming down in the middle of summer. with your closest mates around you, having a laugh). also loads of star gazers come to my village :S but you can see the stars so well millions of them on a clear night.
birmingham, around aston has much much cheaper everything, £1.50 a pint! basically half what i am use to paying (though that is on the aston uni campus) and also good nightlife. and big wok is the best all you can eat chinese i know. and the bullring and shops are good how they stay open late. the 24 hour cost cutter selling alcohol till 4am is also good after a night out. I dont mean to be rude either, but some of the girls seem a little more "friendly" too.
also been to edinborough and thats a beautiful place. Stunning to look at. buildings are masisve. every one cycles or joggs everywhere. guess the taxi drivers arent to into students though especially some of the taxi drivers. or maybe they just dont like the drunken english students who knows.

sorry to repost but if it is birmingham i can tell you some right good places to go depending what your after. hot easy girls, drug fueld adventures. rock, dance, drumn and bass. or a mixture. and it is definately cheap. cheap nights out. and if you like rock there is subculture saturday(at carling academy). or snobs wednesday and saturday. then after snobs there is a place called subside playing some classic rock.metal. and thats open till 6am.

Leeds is a good night out, as is Nottingham. The south is considerably more expensive than the north and isn't that much nicer to be honest. 5 cities reknowned for a good (student :/) night out are:
Leeds
Sheffield
Newcastle
Manchester
Birmingham
You may find Newcastle and Brummy accents a bit hard to understand at times, but if you go in uni term time alot of the young people you meet on a night out won't actually be from that city so that shouldn't be a problem. You will find that in many cities that have major universities in them I feel.
