The whole Name of Company thing is right at the very core of what makes Bush what it is! Don't take it away for Age 5! Leave the two name fields!

Really, it isn't that complicated and isn't going to scare noobs. But it will bother me, and probably other veterans :o

I dont know why Azzer wants to change it, it is one of the defining characteristics of the game. If he is worried about people not joining because it looks complicated then add a note that explains this is your in game ID that other players will recognise you by...this is your account username which you login in with....whatever, but you see my point, maybe add an example...

If you look around many ignore the 'of' anyway and i don't see the problem with making something optional if it that stays in the way. If you want to use of in your names go ahead but i think it limits creativity and confuses begginers.
And all this petition threads are BS as users like to do an action after reading the thread and the only thing allowed is vote yes. What happened with the normal vote in forums ?

I agree that there should be a vote, but i dont see how it limits creativity at all. You said yourself that some people ignore the of in thinking their name. Therefore they are treating it as a single name, and would not be any different without it. I think it adds creativity as people can choose to ignore it, or they can think of a name to go with it. I dont see your logic as it is not given, so please contradict me with reasoning.

And i mentioned in my previous post that confusion can simply be averted by adding simple explanations or side notes. Words can be used in many clever, simple and useful ways. Maybe a slight change in the signing up process could help.

So i cannot see a reason to get rid of it.

But i really think the thread should be changed to a vote, not a petition

We can safetly assume all other forum users who read this suggestion but didn't signed are against it then. :P

And tim, forcing players to use 'of' in the middle of their name is restricting them to use certain patterns. I for one got bored of the same watcher of porn, balls of steel, sound of silence, all the backwords names trying to make fo fit in the name or all the names with of integrated in a single word. Really, after 30 rounds we need some more freedom, it's getting booring.

Yes owner of company is "old school" and some put high value on tradition and i respect that. However nothing will stop them to look old school while those that like a different pattern for their name can also have it if the 'of' is not forced in names anymore.

why dont YOU just put the of in, that seems the more sensible option, this way appeals to more folk than having the of there. it cannot be any worse than current because those that want of in their name can put it there and those who want someonething else can do that.

I just prefer having to find a name to fit around the "of" rather than just sticking the "of" in myself. It's a subtle difference, but an important one.

I like the creative side of IDs, and I think that if you get rid of the "of" names won't be as interesting anymore.

That sir, is a problem with the playerbase, not the system. Just because people are too incompetent to think of new names doesn't mean the 'of' should go.

a petition needs to be a large number of the player base voting, like you said yourself your not gonna get that. so pointless?

taking away of and allowing names which can be created however suits the gamer is a better way toi appeal to more people.
it does undoubtably appeal to more folks, you yourselves are arguing my point really. you wanna use of, i dont. therefore this system is *useable* by both of us? :)

Well Cyrus, the thing is, I liked the whole 'company names' aspect thing, and that idea is somewhat flushed down the tubes when the 'of' portion is gone. I admit that I too am tired of seeing things like DS posted, i hate backwards names, i don't like the simple Balls of steel type name; but occasionally i'll see a really well written 'of' one and it makes me chuckle.

i liked the Company of Company names and while I guess it won't be a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, I just don't like the change for change sake. i haven't seen a good reason as to why the 'of' is being removed, and of the ones bandied about the most often i've heard that it is because the NICK of NICK is too complicated for new players; and that is just a big steaming pile of crap. If you can't figure out NICK of NICK, then you're going to be helplessly lost when you actually start playing, not to mention you probably can't tie your own shoe laces up in the morning.

The 'of' enforced a certain amount of standardization which I enjoyed as names are easy to remember because the format is pretty rigid. That's why i liked the system. yes it's not a huge hassle as those of us who still want it can do the 'of' portion but i just think it'll send ingame nicks into chaos and it will be too messy.

personally ive not actually read what azzer is implemtning instead, as far as i know you can write whatever name you want, for example i could call my id Bob Marley. my names are usually song names, film titles or something thats associated with me.
the thread i made about people using past nicks etc, with of being there limits what users can do. limitations are not a way for a business to expand, azzer needs to appeal to more areas of the market. noobs usually have there name as something like farmer jo of green fields limited. that doesnt make me chuckle, i agree some people have been really creative but the creativity is limited.

at the very least replace it with something, having to incorporate something into your name has always been a great part of bush, and tbh if you cba then just ignore it. or maybe every round give a theme for the names or say that you have to use the word 'xxx' in the middle etc. just something to make you thing. people complain about how many sex/toilet related names there are atm, just imagine it when there isnt even a restriction.

Of course people aren't going to try and be as imaginative as before, but does it really matter when it's supposed to prevent newbies on the verge of registering into the game from hitting ALT+F4 ? Isn't it what you/we were all asking for ? :?

I don't like change for the sake of change. period. This is exactly that. And the petition is to enlist those who think this change is silly. so far we're 'winning' although it really isn't a competition, more of a manner of letting Azzer know that some players disapprove of his decision. Knowing Azzer I imagine it'll be made optional which would be a 'nice' balance between options much as I disapprove. :(

The "of" is for tradition only, and limits progress. Making registration, and the whole signup process much simpler to new players is one of the key improvements to age 5 (along with the front page changes etc.).

The "of" is disappearing, but those of you that like to demonstrate your hardcore traditionalism or show your root, I invite/encourage you to still manually put the word "of" in to your names. Those of you that want to progress and come up with even more inventive things, can do away with the of and be free ;)

I appreciate that "of" is very traditional and feels like part of "Bush", but ask yourself - what does it bring that is beneficial to the progress of the game, that it's removal will not bring, other than "uniqueness for the sake of uniqueness" or "traditionalism for the sake of traditionalism".

It's not just going, but it's already gone, it's fate has been sealed :P
